NEWTOWN cricketer Jonathon Davies has been named ECB Coach Of The Year For Wales.
Davies’ recognition comes after a decade developing Newtown Cricket Club’s successful junior section.
A club spokesman said: “A fully deserved award for all the work he does kindly summarise by one of our committee members below:
“Dedication is an often used word in sporting circles but for our Jono Davies it really does apply.

“For over the past 10 years he has been instrumental in setting up the junior sections at Newtown. Cast your eyes over the current senior teams and it’s no surprise to see that they contain a large number of under 18 players that have come through the Newtown structure and all thanks to Jono.
“He always goes those extra yards. Arranging extra net sessions, extensive travelling all over the country with his eldest son, Griff, who plays for Shropshire under 18’s.
“The youngsters respect his standing and his commitment to them and loyalty has been earned, not given. Jono has sacrificed a lot for cricket and it’s an absolute pleasure that he receives a little recognition back."
